Custom-made orthopaedic footwear

Orthopaedic custom-made footwear is specially designed to provide optimal support, comfort, and function for individuals with foot problems or specific needs. The shoes are individually crafted based on precise measurements and the shape of the feet, ensuring a perfect fit for the foot's anatomy and any orthopaedic conditions.

Custom-made orthopaedic footwear is manufactured using measurements taken directly from your feet, either through a plaster cast or a digital scan.This type of footwear may be necessary for individuals with significant foot deformities, leg length discrepancies, a risk of foot ulcers due to diabetes, or rheumatic conditions that require additional protection and stability. The goal is to combine medical functionality with an appearance that feels natural, comfortable, and suitable for everyday life.

Customized shoe modifications.

Sole build-up: If the difference in leg length is more than 20 millimetres, it is possible to apply for reimbursement for a shoe build-up. In these cases, the build-up itself is covered, not the shoe. If the leg length discrepancy is less than 20 millimetres but is combined with another significant functional impairment, such as cerebral palsy (CP), it may still be possible to apply for this type of specialist-prescribed shoe modification.

Modification: We can also provide shoe modifications when clinically indicated. For example, if a person is unable to tie their own shoelaces, we can replace traditional laces with Velcro fastenings to ensure the shoe fits securely and comfortably.

Shoes with rocker soles.

For conditions such as stiffness in the ankle or foot joints, it may be necessary to modify footwear with so-called rocker soles. These reduce the need for push-off during walking, helping to relieve pressure on stiff joints and making walking easier and more efficient.

The same principle applies to chronic joint conditions affecting the ankle or foot, such as arthritis of the big toe joint. Rocker soles can help improve mobility, reduce discomfort, and support a more natural gait.

Fitting, adjusting or repairing your shoes.

If your shoes does not seem to be working as expected, you can contact your orthopedic clinic for a free fitting, adjustment or repair. You will have a second consultation with your clinician to ensure that the shoes feels comfortable and that you are confident in using it to its full potential.

During your first appointment with us, one of our clinicians will talk to you about your medical background and conduct a physical assessment so we can understand your needs. We will then share the assessment results and review your treatment options with you so that you can make an informed choice together.

How to get support for orthopedic aids.

Orthopedic aids must be requested by an approved specialist, and it is up to NAV to approve the application based on the specialist's justification. NAV can support the acquisition, renewal and maintenance of the aid.
